Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a truly holistic and gentle but very effective soft tissue body treatment.  Using mainly just fingers and thumbs we make gentle rolling moves on specific points of the body to encourage the body to make it’s own adjustments.  No heavy, forced manipulation is used making it suitable for all from newborn babies to the elderly and infirm, there are no age restrictions at all.

It can be effective at relieving or resolving such a vast array of conditions I believe it is one of the most versatile treatments out there.  Everybody responds to Bowen therapy differently with some people responding well to just 2 – 3 treatments whilst others may require maybe 4 – 6 treatments.  Clients with more chronic conditions or needs might also go on to have regular maintenance sessions to maintain their wellbeing.

Bowen can help enable the body to recognise where change is needed, assist and promote the natural healing process whilst helping you to relax and release muscular tension, decrease pain, improve posture and flexibility and reset the bodies nervous system responses.

  • Improving - posture, flexibility, energy levels, sleep, stress/anxiety, depression and anger.

  • Musculoskeletal – back, neck, knee pain, sciatic, arthritis, whiplash, sports injuries, RSI

  • Respiratory –  asthma, hayfever, sinus problems

  • Digestive - IBS, Crohn's, acid reflux, constipation, indigestion

  • Chronic - Fibromyalgia, migraines, MS, ME, Parkinsons

  • Bowen in Sport – release tension, increasing range, power and energy, reduce recovery times, reduced risk of future injury.

Some of the conditions Bowen may help with

Red/Infrared Light Therapy

Sometimes, when people come to me for Bowen therapy, I also use red light and near infrared light therapy. This is again a very non-invasive treatment but by energising the mitochondria in the cells can have some fantastic results by promoting wound healing and tissue repair, lower joint pain and swelling, decease stiffness and increase range of motion.

Along with these great benefits, it is also good to know that red light therapy does not omit any UV and is, in fact, also good for our skin and eye health.

Generally speaking, Near Infrared Light (NIR) penetrates deeper into the body so it’s more suitable for deep tissue benefits such as muscle repair.  Whereas Red Light doesn't penetrate as deep which makes it the perfect option for more superficial benefits within the skin.

For most people and to get the most benefit, I use both types of light together for a period of around 10 to 20 minutes at a time.

MSTR - Scar Therapy Release

Mcloughlin Scar Tissue Release or MSTR is a revolutionary new technique for changing the nature and effect of scars and scar tissue on the body and mind.

It was developed by body worker and Bowen Technique teacher Alastair Mcloughlin for use on post-surgical scarring from either accidents, trauma or elective surgery. The technique helps to release the limitations caused by the formation of the scar tissue, often allow the body to reabsorb significant amounts of the old scar tissue and restore the function of the tissue to more normal levels.

This technique is effective on healed scars from 8 weeks post trauma to many years after the event.

By gently releasing the fibres of the scar tissue, the body can quite radically change the structure of the tissue. The scar can often become significantly softer and paler. It will often lead to release of trapped nerve fibers, the re-establishment of blood flow and circulation and the improvement of lymph drainage to the area. Scars can cause a pulling or dragging sensation which can actually cause postural distortions at it worst

  • Numbness or desensitisation of the scar or surrounding tissue.

  • Pain

  • Hypersensitivity

  • Burning

  • Itching

  • Nausea

  • Discolouration, texture and other physical appearance issues

  • Disconnection between upper and lower body (especial for C-Section and hysterectomy scars) and other parts of the body

Issues that MSTR can effectively help to change:
